The Husband’s birthday dinner was a success! We went to a wonderful place called Raintree Restaurant in St. Augustine (which is where we got engaged). His parents and our friend Harry joined us.
We even got to eat outside in this cute little gazebo:
The Husband and I split this bottle of red.
And I started with a yummy side salad with a slice of sweet bread.
I have so much trouble ordering vegetarian at restaurants. There was only one choice so I had to go for it. I had the eggplant bake with a side of spinach pasta:
It was fried and cheesey, but it was good! I ate 1/2 of the pasta and most of the eggplant.
Plus, some fruit for dessert:
Time for bed! See you in the AM!

What a super cute restaurant! I totally understand about the difficulty ordering vegetarian (even though I’m not). I wonder if the restaurant would have improvised something veg for you; some places are really accommodating about that. Definitely nothing wrong with a cheesy eggplant bake either though.
I didn’t realize you were vegetarian, or is this part of a challenge? Sorry, if I missed something.
I love the name of the restaurant.
Never mind, I just saw the Skinny Bitch post, duh
happy birthday kristien! your dish looks really good – i love aubergine/eggplant
looks tasty! This Harry guy must be one special friend to get to go to so many events!
That eggplant looks so good!
p.s it was my birthday yesterday too!
What a lovely dinner! That looks like a great place.
What a nice dinner out!
Are you vegetarian now?
Your dinner sounds delish anyway!
Glad you had a great time at the restaurant! How fun is the gazebo!!
Ordering vegetarian at restaurants is tricky – I have to be creative a lot of the time!
That looks like such a nice place to dine! I hope you had a wonderful time. Please tell your husband Happy Birthday for me!! Can’t wait to be in Florida in 10 DAYS!!
The food looks yummy! Glad ya’ll had a good time:)
I love St. Augustine! I have only been to Florida a couple of times, but that was my favorite spot. Being a vegetarian I know how hard it can be to find something that is not pasta or covered in cheese at some restaurants, but what you got looks tasty.
It is so hard to order vegetarian some places! It seems to always be pasta and cheese. I usually end up making my own menu, half the time my order sounds like ” Can I have the greek chicken salad, with no chicken” and they have to think if that is possible for a minute and look at me strange. Looks like you had a great time!
It is often difficult to find vegetarian dishes when dining out. You did great! The eggplant looks delish!
Happy Bday to your Hubby!
I totally hear you about ordering vegetarian at restaurants. The reason I don’t eat meat is because of the cholesterol, saturated fat, and how difficult it is to digest. So ordering a big plate of pasta with cheese doesn’t help with ANY of those things!! Oh well. Slowly restaurants are starting to catch on and offer something with a bit more veg and a little less casein!!
