I Fell Off the Wagon

Is it weird to wear a running skirt to the gym?

CIMG4450

I just felt strange wearing a running skirt on the elliptical!  But, it was all I had that was clean!  :)  What do you think?

Running Hiatus Workout #9

Reading material for my workout:

CIMG4451

Yes… I am considering racing in another triathlon (or a Aqua Bike, which is without the run leg) this summer!  This magazine was GREAT and filled with fun and useful information.  I’ll share some highlights over the next few days!

Here’s my workout:

  • 30 minutes elliptical
  • 2.5 minutes running at 6.5 mph
  • 90 crunches
  • 20 push-ups

Did you catch that?!  I sneaked in a little bit of running on the treadmill.  I know, I’m so bad!  :)  I just really wanted to run a little bit to make sure I wasn’t losing "my groove."  It was SO amazing to run, even if it was just 0.25 mile.  I had a big stupid grin on my face the entire time!  My knees felt fine AND I felt like I could’ve run for hourssss — my endurance is still there!

My Eats

My second mid-afternoon snack was a Chocolate Chip Z-Bar:

And some pineapple:

For dinner, I made a tofu cous cous using this box:

I used my Perfect Tofu recipe and mixed it with the cous cous and some steamed broc

I thought the cous cous was excellent; it wasn’t too mushroomy or anything.  An excellent and quick dinner.  🙂

Have a wonderful evening!

  • Weight and Meditate April 27, 2009, 6:24 pm

You crack me up. Falling off the wagon for you is running! Ha! Glad you didn’t go too long though, we want you to get all healed up! And your dinner looks so delicous, I’ll have to try the perfect tofu recipe.

Ahem, I think your month hiatus sidebar needs to be changed to April 27th! :o) I think you should definitely try a duathalon first to give your knee more time. But, that’s just me! 🙂

  • Becca April 27, 2009, 6:26 pm

Love the skirt! I think that it is perfectly fine! I remember my skirts from my good ole days of playing tennis, lol. I think a duathalon sounds great! Take care of that knee!

Oh and I love those z-bars. I buy them for my kids but end up eating them myself, lol!

  • Meghann April 27, 2009, 6:26 pm

    naughty, naughty girl!

I would so rock the running skirt at the gym!! I got a new one today and its blue too!!

Tofu & couscous is a great combo! I would wear a running skirt to the gym..I need to get one for the summer!

  • iowagirleats April 27, 2009, 6:35 pm

I had couscous for dinner tonight too! Ugh, LOVE the stuff!

  • Lisa D. April 27, 2009, 6:35 pm

love the running skirt! maybe that’s what really forced you to hop on the treadmill? and yes that was sneaky!

  • EatRunLitigate April 27, 2009, 6:39 pm

I’m impressed you’ve made it this long without running!

On a side note, I think a duathlon is a triathlon with a run instead of a swim…which would be perfect if you aren’t a fan of the run!

  • runjen April 27, 2009, 6:44 pm

Isn’t it amazing how fabulous running feels after a break!? There is nothing like it.

  • Oh She Glows April 27, 2009, 6:45 pm

haha you are too funny! I felt the same way the other day when I went ‘over’ my mileage by 0.65 miles. I felt bad! But man sometimes it feels good.

I know what you mean about the skirt! I think I would feel weird too. I think I would be wondering if people actually knew it was a workout skirt or if they would know. Im on the fence! I know I would know what it is, but I’m not sure others would be as ‘hip’ as us. haha, but then again who cares!??

  • Oh She Glows April 27, 2009, 6:46 pm

Sorry my post did NOT make sense. Oh boy. I need bed. lol.

  • Michelle April 27, 2009, 6:47 pm

I love the running skirt, I say wear it wherever you want! Glad the knees felt good with your few minutes of running! 🙂 Now you know you won’t “get out of the groove” during the rest of your hiatus.

  • livelaughlyss April 27, 2009, 6:51 pm

Hahahahaha! That’s not falling off the wagon silly girl! Plus, you had to put that great skirt to work!

  • sara April 27, 2009, 7:09 pm

nah, it’s cool to wear a running skirt to the gym. i used to wear one to my old gym, although i would ONLY wear one with the little shorts underneath, not the bun-huggers or whatever the little underwear things are called (that’s just a little too revealing for me). i did everything in the skirt too–pull ups, sit ups, rowing.

and i don’t blame you for falling off the wagon! i was eyeing the treadmills this morning myself and i’m still barred from running for another 3 weeks. grrr.

  • Christina April 27, 2009, 7:11 pm

Can’t wait to hear more about triathlons!

I want to do one so bad but haven’t worked up the courage to register for one yet.

Oh, and I love the running skirt!

  • Alex April 27, 2009, 7:19 pm

I thought you told us to yell at you if you ran… DON’T RUN!!!!!

Seriously, it may seem awful, but if you have a Grade 4 injury or above (and I’m assuming something that’s chronic qualifies), you are only doing yourself a disservice. Believe me, I know. It took me way too long to finally take the 4 weeks off that I desperately needed and, in hindsight, I wish I had done it sooner! You might want to consider starting your hiatus over again…

I hope I don’t sound harsh, I’m just trying to pass along advice I had to learn the hard way. 🙂

  • Faith April 27, 2009, 7:20 pm

You’re so funny (and bad) – it cracks me up that your falling off the wagon is running. You told us to yell at you though – so NO RUNNING! 🙂 Let your poor knee heal, girl!

  • Sarah (lovINmytummy) April 27, 2009, 7:38 pm

I just got teary at your .25 miles. So jealous…and emotional. I swear someone slipped something in my Green Monster.

  • Bec April 27, 2009, 7:55 pm

Its perfectly acceptable to wear a running skirt to the gym!

  • Susan April 27, 2009, 7:59 pm

Wear whatever you want to the gym! Whatever gets you out the door is good enough for me.

Glad your knee felt good today…even if you aren’t supposed to be running!!

  • redheadedjournal April 27, 2009, 9:12 pm

I had just pulled your blog up when my husband walked in the room. He said, “Hey! That girl has knee sleeves like you!” Glad I’m not the only one with the knees of an older person 🙂

    Caitlin,

We will always love you darlin. Even if you “fall of the wagon”. 😀

I see you are doing the 30 day shred? How do you like it? My mom is getting it for me for my birthday and I’m uber excited.

    Have a wonderful night sweetie!

    With Love,

    Emily

  • HangryPants April 27, 2009, 9:27 pm

  • sandy April 27, 2009, 11:47 pm

haha, and that tofu recipe looks awesome! I just bought some so I am gonna make that tomorrow! Thanks! Oh and I just realized you said you turned 25! I was like WHAT!!!!!! You look so young! I thought you were like 20, lol.

  • Thinspired April 28, 2009, 1:24 am

I think you can definitely pull off a running skirt on the elliptical!
I’m so happy your knees are feeling that good! That is excellent news!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point April 28, 2009, 3:45 am

faith and alex – you’re totally right. thanks for yelling at me. i couldn’t help it!!!

  • Krista April 28, 2009, 6:41 am

I just got 4 boxes of that very couscous from a friend who is moving form the US to Canada and was cleaning out his pantry! Glad to hear its good!

  • Carolina John April 28, 2009, 6:42 am

yea you should do another tri. i did my first tri with an open water swim a couple of weeks ago, it was really cool.

especially if you move up to the carolinas (yes i didn’t forget) we don’t have the gator threat you have in FL. do a tri, caitlin!

  • nibblesandwiggles April 28, 2009, 7:19 am

I don’t think wearing a running skirt to the gym is weird at all! Glad you enjoyed your little run. 🙂

  • Lindsay April 28, 2009, 8:14 am

“I plan to take at least 1 month off from running. I reserve the right to go on two short runs during this month, but overall, I will NOT be running. PLEASE yell at me in the comments if I suddenly start ‘sneaking in’ runs. I have a feeling my habit will be hard to break!”

= me yelling. Come on girl, self control! I am glad it didn’t hurt though.
