I’m missing the Husband.  He is out of town on business again, so I decided to make some "missing my love" pancakes.

CIMG3467

I used Hodgson’s Mills InstaBake Mix to make banana pancakes (cause it’s always better when we’re together… like the "Better Together" song says!).

CIMG3476

Leftover banana on the side….

CIMG3474

And maple syrup for dipping. πŸ™‚

Even though today is my day off, I have an insane amount of stuff to get done, like working out, errands, cleaning for weekend guests, etc.

BUT, if I manage to get everything done, I’m going to go SHOPPING.  I’m so excited because I hardly ever go shopping, but I really need some summer clothing.  I’m going to put the shopping trip at the END of my day so it’s more like a reward than a distraction. πŸ™‚

I’ll be back for lunch!

Favorite Albums?

You guys know I have a soft spot for B. Spears, but my favorite kind of music is really alternative rock.  Here’s a listing of my favorite albums of all time:

  • Third Eye Blind – Third Eye Blind:  The first rock concert I ever went to, and a really amazing CD.
  • Coldplay – A Rush of Blood to the Head:  With songs like "The Scientist," "Clocks," and "Green Eyes," how can you NOT love this CD?
  • Snow Patrol – Eyes Open: This CD is the Husband and my CD.  We even chose one of their songs ("Chasing Cars") as our first dance.
  • Twilight Soundtrack -  With bands like Paramore, Linkin Park, and Muse, its the perfect wedding of romance and rock.
  • The Postal Service – Give Up:  This CD skirts the line between alternative rock and electronic music.  Cool fact – it was recorded by two guys on opposite sides of the country.  One guy would lay down a level of beats and mail it to the other guy, who would add more instruments or vocals.  Hence, the name "The Postal Service."

Here’s one of The Postal Service’s best songs (you’re either going to love it or hate it!):

Okay, obviously I’m old because some of the albums you named I don’t even know who they are. And I’m only 29. I’m currently listening to Fun House by Pink, and other than that I mostly listen to whatever my boyfriend puts on, usually jazz or blues music…

  • Coley April 3, 2009, 5:40 am

A Rush Of Blood to the Head for sure!

  • Nicole (anotheronebitesthecrust.wordpress.com) April 3, 2009, 5:42 am

I love that Jack Johnson song πŸ˜€

Hmm, some of my favorite albums are “The Resignation” by the RX Bandits, “A Day at the Races” by Queen, “Plans” by Death Cab for Cutie, aaaand anything by Metric, Men Women and Children and The Beach Boys!

  • therunningaddict April 3, 2009, 5:43 am

That’s a hard one! Because I know SONGS rather than albums hahaha! I am sure Coldplay would be on the list though, if I actually knew what albums the songs came from πŸ™‚

  • VeggieGirl April 3, 2009, 5:52 am

    ALWAYS LOVE YOUR PANCAKES!!!!

I have sooo many favorite albums – but I have to give props to Alanis Morrisette’s “Jagged Little Pill,” since that was my VERY FIRST CD, haha πŸ˜€

  • greendogwine April 3, 2009, 5:54 am

I COULD SING YOU EVERY SINGLE LYRIC FROM THE 3EB ALBUM! πŸ™‚ My old screen name in high school was Alli3eb – I was super cool like that! πŸ˜›

sounds like a fun day! I wish I could go shopping instead of being at work!

I LOVE that 3EB album, too. They came to Tech last semester and we got to see them – it was awesome.

    Some of my favorite albums:
    ALL of Incubus’ albums
    anything by 311
    Jack Johnson’s first album
    anything by Ben Harper
    Lemonade – G. Love
    Hello Everyone – Limbeck
    All American Rejects – selftitled

  • Kristie Lynn April 3, 2009, 6:03 am

Death Cab for Cutie – Narrow Stairs
The Hush Sound – Like Vines, So Sudden, AND Goodbye Blues (Seriously, there is nothing this group makes that I don't like; can't resist peppy sounding music with clever lyrics!)
    Mike Doughty – Golden Delicious
    Sara Bareilles – Little Voice
    Barenaked Ladies – Stunt
Ben Folds Five – The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner
Iron & Wine – Our Endless Numbered Days
Jason Mraz – We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.
Fountains of Wayne – Welcome Interstate Managers

(Yeah, I'm kind of a music junkie. It pained me to narrow the list to those.)

Have you listened to any of Snow Patrol's newest album though? I think it's really good πŸ™‚

  • Sarah W. April 3, 2009, 6:08 am

Anything by the beach boys & the beatles.

Carbon Leaf Indian Summer & Incubus-MorningView are my favs

I can't leave out my fav techno djs like Tiesto's In Search of Sunrise 4 & Just Be. Oakenfold's voyage into trance holds a soft spot as that was my FIRST techno CD. Oakenfold's Tranceport is also a winner.

oh i love that song such great heights. i also like their song “brand new colony.” have you ever listened to THE SHINS? they are a really good group and i swear it’s just coincidental that i’m a runner who listens to a group called the shins…
and THE FORMAT, too- they are not well known, but probably my favorite running music comes from their two CD’s.

  • emilydh211 April 3, 2009, 6:17 am

I love the postal service, that is one of my favorite albums too. If you like them, look up a band called “owl city” they are similiar to the postal service and they are pretty good too!

  • Erin April 3, 2009, 6:20 am

    Greatest Hits – Bob Dylan
    Sublime – Sublime (soo nostalgic!)

  • Danielle April 3, 2009, 6:25 am

3EB was my first concert as well, I actually heard they have a new album coming out soon!
My favorite band of all time is The Format, which I see someone else mentioned on here, there cd’s are the best cd’s to run too.

  • Mica April 3, 2009, 6:28 am

Aww, hope the hubby comes back soon! I love the Postal Service. Too bad they’re no more. I guess I’ll just have to settle for DeathCab.

Shopping definitely motivates me to finish things!

  • Marlène April 3, 2009, 7:38 am

I just wrote a post about my life-changing albums!! Here is the link:

    http://speed-trials.blogspot.com/2009/03/nostalgia.html

Though once I was done, I realized that I forgot to include perhaps THE most important one:

Elliott Smith – Either/Or. Beautiful. Devastating. Heart-Wrenching. And has THE most hope-inspiring song at the end. Elliott knows how to break you down, but here, he also builds you back up. I love it!

  • Rose April 3, 2009, 8:02 am

The district sleeps alone tonight. Shoot, great memories. Bill and I listened to that album all the time our first summer in DC. And now he’s doing a postal-service like experiment with two of his out-of-state band members.

Does your husband travel often? Bill doesn’t go anywhere, but sometimes his work is just overwhelming – and I miss him because he’s not “there” all the time, you know?

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point April 3, 2009, 8:21 am

oooo so many good recommedations!!! i need to up my itunes now πŸ™‚

rose – he travels every week. it sucks a lot. πŸ™

  • Victoria April 3, 2009, 8:27 am

American Beauty by the Grateful Dead always makes me really happy. I listen to about everything.

  • Sally April 3, 2009, 8:50 am

On a music related note, I saw Lily Allen in concert last night and she was fabulous! She put on a great show and I had so much fun!

PS Snow Patrol had a couple of albums before Eyes Open, but Final Straw (2003) was probably their breakout album. It’s really good if you haven’t heard it yet.

  • cocoeatsandcritiques April 3, 2009, 9:04 am

Kings of Leon- Aha Shake Heartbreak!!!! So good!
Jack Johnson – In Between Dreams
Anything by Hotel Costes – great house/lounge music- good to play when working around the house or having a dinner party!!! Try it out!

  • Neely April 3, 2009, 9:25 am

Haha Caitlin… What did the removed comment say? That Twilight sucks? LOL! Just kidding.

I love Arcade Fire… My fave album of all time is probably either Nirvana-“Nevermind” or Bright Eyes- “Lifted…”

Hope to see ya tomorrow… awesome looking pancakes, btw.

  • Anna April 3, 2009, 9:39 am

Not to be a Jack Johnson snob, but the line “it’s always better when we’re together” is from the song Better Together. My stepsister and her husband just had that as their first dance at their wedding! It was too cute and perfect.

Obviously, Jack Johnson is on my list of favorite albums. So is Coldplay, Dashboard Confessional and U2.

  • runsarah April 3, 2009, 9:48 am

Banana pancakes are delicious! I love shopping too and use I’d as a treat after a busy day!

  • Ryan (Chase Daylight) April 3, 2009, 9:52 am

I will forever and always be in love with Sister Hazel’s Chasing Daylight album. Hmm…I wonder why? πŸ˜›

  • Marlow April 3, 2009, 9:56 am

  • Anne P April 3, 2009, 10:07 am

you have good taste in music because it’s similar to mine πŸ˜‰ i love postal service and snow patrol. i saw snow patrol in concert before they got popular in 2004… sooo good. do you like death cab too? i especially like their earlier stuff.

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point April 3, 2009, 10:16 am

anna – oops!!! thanks for catching that. i corrected it. πŸ™‚

anne p – i think we saw snow patrol in 2006. they were SO good.

  • haya April 3, 2009, 10:23 am

thanks for the postal service fact! i absolutely love them.

  • ksgoodeats April 3, 2009, 10:25 am

Fantastic music selection!! I love all of those albums! My favorites are all of Maroon 5’s albums πŸ™‚

  • Katie April 3, 2009, 10:45 am

I love your albums. Add “Morning View” from Incubus and any of the Jimmy Eat World CDs. Great list. Postal Service always makes me think of high school…

  • RunningWithin April 3, 2009, 10:53 am

I love the Postal Service! I think I have the same taste as you to an extent, I love Alternative Rock but am definitely a fan of Katy Perry, the new Brittney stuff and Lady Gaga lol. But I also LOVE CLASSIC ROCK, give me some Aerosmith, Ozzy, Styx, etc. any day and I’m a happy girl. And I admit to liking country too. Everything but rap really.

  • Carrie H April 3, 2009, 1:20 pm

Hey, just had to say … I heard the guys from the Postal Service were actually sued by the U.S. Postal Service for the name and had to pay a fine and put on a benefit concert for postmen, but were able to keep their name!

Strange, but if it’s true, totall hi-larious!

  • Jessica April 3, 2009, 11:33 pm

I’m a classic rock girl at heart. I like a little bit of everything but it’s all about the original stuff for me.

Van Morrison’s ‘Astral Weeks’ is the album I’d probably have to call my favourite since I’ve been listening to it since I was a kid (I’m 25) and I doubt I’ll ever get sick of it. And it’s pretty much musical perfection.

Also, ‘Live at the Regal’ BB King (I’m a big blues fan) and Led Zeppelin IV.

For something more current, I absolutely adore Sigur Ros’ () album. It’s painfully beautiful.

  • Amanda April 4, 2009, 9:27 am

Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars” is my bf and I’s song, too! We talked about using it as our first dance song at our wedding.
