Good morning.  I had a wonderful 10-mile run.  I definitely needed (both mentally and physically) a good run!

Before leaving, I ate a full breakfast.

CIMG3346

Coffee + banana oatmeal. My oatmeal contained:

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 sliced banana
  • Toppings: unsweetened coconut, pecans, and brown sugar

I got ready for my run and stepped outside to discover this:

It was sprinkling and I could tell it was ready to pour.  Instead of letting the rain hold me down, I decided to wrap my iPod in a ziploc bag and tackle the pavement.  It opened up and began to rain HARD around mile 1.0 and didn’t let up until mile 9.0.

I listened to Twilight: The Score the entire run, and the creepy music + the pouring rain made me feel like I was right in the movie!  I ran a little faster than normal because I felt like crazy vampires were chasing after me!  If I squinted just so I could pretend all the cars and homes were gone and I was really in a rainy forest, just like the book.  πŸ™‚

And I discovered that the twinkling piano music and soaring violins were much more relaxing than Lady Gaga and Britney Spears.  As a result, the whole run was more enjoyable and calming.  I actually felt rejuvenated for the first time after a long run in a while!

This is my favorite song off the soundtrack:

Here are my statistics:

  • Duration: 1 hour, 45 minutes (10.o miles)
  • Calories Burned: 800 (estimate)

After a nice, hot shower, I made a yummy lunch and settled down to watch last week’s LOST episode.

CIMG3351

I made a veggie burger with cheddar cheese and two slices of WW toast.

CIMG3352

Plus a side of carrots and broc.

HAVE A GREAT DAY!

I never thought to run to the soundtrack! Great idea.

Have you listened to the commentary during the movie yet? Robert Pattinson is hilarious through it and pretty much makes fun of himself the whole time.

Glad you had a good morning!

  • therunningaddict March 29, 2009, 9:14 am

It’s so impressive that you were able to run to this music! I would never be able to! I need the crazy, loud and intensive tunes in my ears otherwise I won’t move.

Good for you for getting back out there! 10 miles in the rain? Wow. I’ve run in the rain before, and it’s not for me LOL. Luckily I live in a pretty rain-free area.

  • Niki March 29, 2009, 9:32 am

I just discovered your blog last night randomly when looking for some training tips. I’m addicted to your inspiring words! I’m training for my first half marathon that will be held in May and thought all your tips were really great. I just love your healthy lifestyle (mentally and physically). You are an inspiration!

YOu go girl! Running in the rain! I’ve run to the Last of Mohicans soundtrack and it makes me feel like a total badass running from someone. It’s awesome how a soundtrack does that.

You’re the best, hon, have a great day!

  • Nicole (anotheronebitesthecrust.wordpress.com) March 29, 2009, 10:45 am

i am obsessed with twilight, running to the soundtrack is the best idea!

  • Colleen March 29, 2009, 11:01 am

Oooo – two of my favorite combos – soundtracks and rain-running! In GA it gets soooooo hot during the summer and I just relish those days when we have a light rain and I can go for a nice relaxing run!

My favorite soundtracks to run to are The Simpsons Movie and The Dark Knight – Hans Zimmer did both of them and he’s a genius!

I am obsessed with LOST lately! I am just starting season 1 and I am addicted!

CRAZY, CRAZY LADY. i will not conform to the twilight scene, and i am afraid of getting sucked into it like everyone else. haha. glad to hear you had a rejuvinating run though πŸ™‚

  • Adi (oatonomy.com) March 29, 2009, 12:18 pm

Happy to hear you had a great run! I can’t listen to music when I run outside (but always do on the treadmill) and I find it so much more relaxing to just have quiet. Kinda nice!

I laughed when you said you were pretending you were in the movie… I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks up stuff like that while working out. πŸ™‚

  • Kristi March 29, 2009, 12:18 pm

I usually prefer running to loud, intense upbeat songs…but for Edward, I might be able to make an exception. hahaha πŸ™‚

  • Lindsay March 29, 2009, 12:50 pm

I prefer to run to music like this, energizing yet calming instrumentals and quiet upbeat vocals. The theme song to Boondock Saints, Banana Wind by Jimmy Buffett, etc. It is so much nicer feeling at the end! Though there are other times I just need some Linkin Park. πŸ™‚

  • Leah @ Simply Fabulous Now March 29, 2009, 12:53 pm

I always listen to mellow and calming music when I go for my long runs- it helps me get into a smoother rhythm and control my breathing.

Great Job on the 10 mile run! I also ran my very first 10 miler this week!

  • healthy ashley March 29, 2009, 7:06 pm
