Tie Your Laces!

in All Posts

Morning!  I’m running soooo late, so I better make this snappy!

Breakfast was the usual: oatmeal.

At least it was in a pretty bowl! 🙂

My oatmeal contained:

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 sliced banana
  • Toppings: Grape Nuts and blueberries

On another note, several of you suggested I get a foot pad for my bum foot, and I actually did!

A podiatrist at Husband’s school gave it to him.  I hope it works out!

How To Tie Your Shoes (Really)

One of the things I realized when researching the connection between shoes and foot pain is that the way you tie your shoes really matters.

Lace For A Better Fit

Do you have the following issues:

  • Your shoes rubs on the top part of your foot?
  • Your toenail turned black?
  • Your shoe feels too tight all along the top of your foot?
  • Your toes feel cramped?
  • Your ankle slides out?

If so, there are very cool techniques to tying your shoes that may alleviate the pain.  Check out this Runner’s World article, which even has videos on how to tie your shoes correctly!

Neat!

Have a great day!

I keep wanting to try that shoe-tying technique, but it looks complicated. I’m waiting for some free time on the weekend to do it…

Oh my god. If my toenail turns black that’s a little troubling.

yeah i read that article in runner's world, too! crazy that most of us tie our shoes wrong. i'll admit, i didn't change the way i tie mine cause i'm not having any foot issues (cross my fingers that i stays that way!)

i didn't go to pitt, but my whole family did (parents & three sisters). my grandfather even taught there! it's a great school, plus oakland is an awesome area. what did you major in? i'm looking into transferring there or maybe a smaller school like chatham.

    have a great day! 🙂

I tied my shoes too tight for so long. It took me forever to figure out why I kept getting pain in the top of my foot…and I was buying my shoes a 1/2 size too small – hence the horrible toes. All is good now.

Lovely bowl for sure. Have a wonderful day Cailtin. Hope the foot pad helps!

I totally thought about you this morning on my run! I was about halfway through and “Do Somethin” by Britney came on my ipod. Then I realized I was totally doing the music video thing. hehehe. It makes one nice and speedy though!

Somehow the song was extra apporpriate…

“I see you lookin at me
Like I’m some kind of freak…”

  • chasedaylight January 29, 2009, 10:59 am

Thanks for the shoelace tying reference! Really interesting!

A guy at a specialty running store taught me how to do the ankle cinch tie. It saves my super narrow heels from blisters from all that sliding, even in “narrow width” shoes. The black toe one would come in handy for extra long runs.

I recently discovered your blog and appreciate the tips on the laces. Thanks.
