Spin Class and Wolfgang

in All Posts

Evening!  We had quite the rainstorm today.  Maggie slept right through it!

CIMG1401

I snacked on…. yogurt and granola.

CIMG1404

And around 4, a pre-workout snack of carrots + PB.  Holy Gliding Calm!

CIMG1407

After work, I headed to the gym for a long, super sweaty workout.  I got to spin class a little early, so I squeezed in a quick weight-lifting session.

I did:

  • Biceps (30 lb. dumbell 3X12)
  • Triceps (40 lbs. cable pull-ups 3×12)
  • Warm up on the treadmill: 4.0 mph for 5 minutes.

Spin class was insane.  The last time I went to spin class was with Meghann back on October 23!   It totally kicked my runner’s booty.

  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Average Heart Rate: 149 bpm
  • Maximum Heart Rate: 185 bpm
  • Calories Burned: 435

I was super sweaty afterwards!  It was almost as rewarding as a long run.

Dinner

Wolfgang is back!  Oh, my favorite weirdo:

CIMG1409

Each can contains 2 servings, but obviously I eat the whole can at once (who wouldn’t?!).  A whole can has about 16 grams of protein! Not bad for vegetarian!

CIMG1415

It exploded in the microwave and looks unappealing, BUT…. IT WAS DELICIOUS!  The Hearty Lentil and Vegetable was so thick and had great seasonings.

And a yummy Cesar salad.

CIMG1416

That soup was so thick — I’m absolutely stuffed!

CIMG1417

Time for bed! 🙂 Have a wonderful nice.

Have you taken a spin class? Are you a fan?

I just put put this soup in a container for my lunch tomorrow! It will be the first time I’ve tried it, so I’m glad to know you liked it.

  • VeggieGirl January 29, 2009, 7:32 pm

    Aww, Maggie 🙂

Hoory for Miss Gliding Calm-inspired carrots & PB!!

No cardio for me; so therefore no spin class.

  • Laura January 29, 2009, 7:35 pm

I’ve always been intimidated by spin. It’s just so foreign to me! I’ve always wanted to to try it though.

Every single time I see Wolfgang’s soups, I think of you! 🙂

  • Meghann January 29, 2009, 7:39 pm

I want to go to spinning class again!!! Hey, now that I have a bike we should go on a bide ride together sometime! Maybe we can have a picnic and ride off in to the sunset? 🙂

  • Lindsay January 29, 2009, 7:39 pm

I heart my spin class!! In this winter session, I can only make it on Monday nights. (Un?)Conveniently it fits in right after a 3 mile run. So I end up doing a semi “br-ick” session, in opposite order. And yea, I end up sweating a TON too. Even on the BACKS of my HANDS!! AMAZING! It’s a hate/love relationship. 😀

  • Kristin January 29, 2009, 7:46 pm

I teach spin class once a week. I love it. It is such a good balance to running, especially in Iowa were we are stuck inside all winter.

  • Amanda January 29, 2009, 7:47 pm

I always dread going to spinning but am glad whenever I do! You reminded me that I should get back into it!!

  • Holly January 29, 2009, 7:55 pm

I am addicted to spin! I’m a three day a week gal :o)

  • dailygoods January 29, 2009, 8:05 pm

i’ve tried to love spinning, but every time i am in the class i just can’t wait till its over. i’m thinking maybe its not for me… it is a huge calorie burner though, and the music is always great! i do love going on regular bike rides though
love your soup! i need to try some of wolfgang’s soups, whenever i see his face i always laugh bc i think of you calling him a big weirdo

  • Katy January 29, 2009, 8:10 pm

Oh, Pervy Wolfgang. I love him.

  • Meredith (Pursuing Balance) January 29, 2009, 8:14 pm

I’ve tried spinning, and I really enjoyed it! But towards the end of class my knees started feeling weird during all the up and down bits, and they were hurting all the next day too so unfortunately I’m not sure I should try it again.

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point January 29, 2009, 8:17 pm

meredith – i wear my knee braces to spin class!! i need them. try it again with a brace, maybe? 🙂

  • Olga January 29, 2009, 8:25 pm

Ahh I've always wanted to go to spin but never got a chance! I'm sure it's a killer workout.

Hahaha I love how you said that it was ALMOST as rewarding as a long run. You're a true runner at <3!

  • sweetandfit January 29, 2009, 8:32 pm

the soup actually looks really good!

I used to go to spinning classes a lot a couple yrs ago….. what you get out of it really depends on how serious you take it and how much resistance you use – it really can kick your ass!

  • Meg January 29, 2009, 8:37 pm

    Maggie looks so comfortable!

I have taken one spin class and the seat kind of hurt me. I think I would try it again if I could get a gel seat for comfort.

  • inmytummy January 29, 2009, 8:38 pm

I like spin but never seem to be able to fit it into my schedule.

I like the Wolfgang Puck Onion soup. It’s one of the few that I’ve been able to find that’s not made with beef broth.

  • Laura January 29, 2009, 8:50 pm

i LOVE spinning classes, they are awesome. when i was in the process of losing weight a few summers ago, i went to about 3 spinning classes a week. i seriously contribute the intense spinning classes (plus a healthy diet of course) to my 25 lb weight loss!

  • Holly January 29, 2009, 9:17 pm

    I’m a spin teacher!! 🙂

Although, these days, it doesn’t challenge me as much. I really have to push it. Running is a much harder workout for me.

  • Mica January 29, 2009, 9:18 pm

I’ve never done a spin class. I’m too afraid of quad burn and messing up the gears.

This post featured two favorites: creepy Wolfgang AND Maggie. She’s SO cute!!

  • jenngirl January 29, 2009, 9:53 pm

haha everytime I see Wolfgang soups now, I think of YOU!!

I’m a spin instructor, and I have to say, Spinning is to me, like running is to you 🙂

  • Marissa January 29, 2009, 10:19 pm

I took spinning in the past. As soon as my hand and wrist are healed I want to get back into it!

  • Nancy January 29, 2009, 10:19 pm

I have to add that I also smile when I see Wolfgang when I’m doing my grocery shopping because it’s just so funny how he creeps you out haha… i also remember like 2 years ago people at the gym RAVED about spinning to the point where we couldn’t come to classes without reserving a seat in advance so i HAD to try it but the seat hurt me so much too :-/ I haven’t done it since then but I people still love it and I always see them coming out POURING SWEAT! I hear people say it’s a great calorie burner too. What’s funny is that no matter how much i sweat, it never feels as amazing as an “after run sweat.” Do you any of you feel that way sometimes? Is that what you meant Caitlin, when you said it was ALMOST as good as a run? I really wonder why that is…

  • Andrea of Care to Eat January 29, 2009, 11:04 pm

I really want to try spinning, but it intimidates me. I wish I could find an intro/beginner class in my area.

  • Elizabeth (thelongweigh) January 29, 2009, 11:32 pm

I havent tried spinning yet, mainly becasue it seems so hardcore! One day I will take the plunge though!

  • Leah January 30, 2009, 12:09 am

I absolutely love a good spin class! I haven’t been in a few weeks but normally try to do 1 class a week. I’ll try to get back to one next week!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point January 30, 2009, 4:26 am

everyone – dont be scurred of spin! even if it seems crazy hardcore, you can gol at your own pace and make it an “intro” class even if its just a regular class.

also re the seat hurting, i think the only option is to get your butt used to it. i think it normally takes three or four classes.

wolfgang = perv. in a good way.

  • Mrs. LC January 30, 2009, 4:46 am

Yum, I love lentil soups!! I’ll have to try Wolfgang’s even though he’s kinda awkward looking. 🙂

    Have a good Friday today!

  • imadedinner January 30, 2009, 5:17 am

I’ve been wondering where you were!!!! YAY FOR FINDING YOU!!!

  • Mrs. LC January 30, 2009, 5:35 am

Thank you so much for commenting. 🙂 Life can suck, growing up can be a real drag and a drain on dreams, but I don’t think I’m done yet. And girl, you are such a great writer – why do you think your blog is such a success? Your writing is so transparent where we can see your true heart under every word. Use your job to pay the pills and remind yourself that you are so much more creative. Now go get to work on your novel this weekend – I can’t wait to buy it off the bookstore shelves!! Love ya! 🙂

  • robinbb January 30, 2009, 5:58 am

I have been wanting to try a spin class, but the class is always full on my cross-train days. That soup looks good, I may buy it today and try it out.

  • Lindsay January 30, 2009, 6:06 am

I just started doing spin! I have been a bum lately, and I find that spin helps me get my motivation to exercise back. After a month or more of only walking the dogs, it helps to have someone yelling to make it harder, and a room full of people so you can’t quit! I feel self motivation coming back!

  • Elina January 30, 2009, 6:34 am

OMG, Maggie looks SO cute! I need to save this post to show my husband. Serious, adorable!! 🙂

I started taking spinning when I hurt my shins late last year, as an alternative to running. I still prefer running, I think, because you can do it anywhere and it challenges me more, but I do like mixing it up by taking spinning about once a week (actually just took it yesterday and it definitely kicked my butt). It’s a great workout!

  • Karen January 30, 2009, 7:22 am

I looooove spinning! I’m a runner too and you’re right – it does kick a runner’s booty! But after awhile, it actually helped my running by strenghening muscles I wasn’t working as much previously. And now I’m addicted!

  • brandi January 30, 2009, 8:01 am

I’ve never taken a spin class, but I want to!

They have it at our gym, so I need to at some point.

  • tryingforatri January 30, 2009, 9:25 am

Hey! I’m a long time lurker, I love your blog!

Spin class is my favourite! It’s so high energy and the instructors are usually awesome. The seat can take some getting used to, but can be fixed with some adjustments. Hill climbs = fun. Sprints = death! 😛

  • mytastytravels January 30, 2009, 11:40 am

I took spin this morning at 6am! I love it! At first I used to hate it because it hurt my bum, but now I am getting used to it more. the only thing I don’t like are the bikes because you can see how many rpms or what intensity you are doing (I need a HR monitor) It is such a great work-out and I’m usually dripping by the end. Plus I do it on Friday mornings, so it feels so good to be done with the days workout just as the weekend is getting started. Spinnin’ like a villin’

    -Kristen

  • HangryPants January 30, 2009, 12:26 pm

” Oh, my favorite weirdo:” haha – that was funny. 😀

I’ve never taken spin! I am afraid of that madness.

  • lauren January 30, 2009, 1:16 pm

I love spin. Great cross-training and I like having someone else push me. It really does help strengthen my legs too.
