Oatmeal, how I missed you!!!
I took about thirty pictures of this one bowl! I think I was so enamored by my oatmeal that I couldn’t stop staring at it (until I realized it was time to actually EAT it).
My crazy delicious oatmeal featured a STAR ingredient that we picked up on our tour of Napa Valley:
Peju Vineyard’s famous Chardonnay Caramel Sauce…. to die for! I think this is meant to be drizzled over crepes or ice cream, but when I saw it I immediately thought, "OATMEAL!"
My oatmeal contained:
- 1/2 cup oatmeal
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 sliced banana
- Toppings: Grape Nuts, blackberries, and Chardonnay Caramel Sauce
Off to work – it’s my first day back. Ugh! I like my job, but trust me — I like honeymooning MORE!
Later I’ll go on a nice, long run. I’m beginning to train for my upcoming half marathon — I’ll post the training schedule Sunday or Monday!
Did you know that 46% of runners say their brains give out before their bodies? I agree — I usually break down in my head first. What’s been your experience?

P.S. – CARAMEL SAUCE?!?!?!??!?!
**died. hopefully went to heaven**
That chardonnay caramel sauce looks so uniquely delicious!
I agree it is my brain that gives up before my body. That is why they say running is so much in your head.
umm, i’d totally agree, especially on the treadmill!!
lovely oats, and that caramel sauce?? wowza, i want some
I don’t think we’re going to order that drink again, it was probably a one off thing. You need 7 people to even order it.
It is a fun bar though, they have dueling pianos!!
And YAY for you being back!
Great fact! I would also agree! Welcome back! You planned it well to start back on a Friday! Good thinking!
My brain FOR SURE gives up before my body…I have to chant different things in my head when I start to think I can’t do anymore, because I know I can!
“Pain is temporary, Quitting is forever” is one of my favorites!
at my last race (the marathon), it was definitely my body that wanted to give out before my mind. the only reason i was able to carry on was my mind’s strong will/stubbornness that pushed my body through the pain.
that sauce looks divine! happy to have you back and looking forward to seeing your training plan. my first half race is in may, but i am still unable to run outside because of the ice/snow so i’m doing lots of cross training.
The caramel sauce sounds like it’d be FABULOUS on oats! Now that is decadence! Love it.
My brain definitely gives up before my body most of the time. Sometimes it is really hard to tune out the brain and listen to my body!
Welcome back!!! that oatmeal looks so good with the caramel sauce
Yeah…my mind definitely goes out and gives up first. It’s always hard to keep going when my brain is trying to convince me to stop!
I’m sure oatmeal, in its own uniquely inanimate way, missed you too!
If I’m on a treadmill, my brain definitely goes before my body.
That oatmeal looks fab!
I just started running again and I agree 100%, it is mind over body, for sure.
Can’t wait to see your training schedule for your half! I’m about to start training for one at the end of March!
I agree…my brain will always try to quit before my legs. PS — Your blog is fantastic! As a fellow newlywed/recovering-Fast-Food-addict/runner, I really enjoy reading your posts!
I am SO glad you’re back!
Although the working isn’t as fun as the honeymooning, that delicious bowl of oatmeal looks like the perfect way to ease you into it!
And wahoo for a long run – I am so jealous … it is frigid here in PA and the most I can motivate myself to do is go to the gym, not run outside. DEFINITELY a mental thing. Brain goes before body.
Happy Friday
Chardonnay caramel sauce?! I WANT SOME!
Glad you’re back!
Mmmm, oatmeal topped with caramel sauce sounds really good!
Welcome back!
Your oatmeal looks amazing!! I think I’m going to go make some right now
And I can definitely agree with the runner’s brain thing. It’s totally mental for me!
Caramel sauce looks like it made that oatmeal. Dessert for breakfast!
Wow! That is one tasty looking bowl of oatmeal!
Ooh, was the caramel sauce good on the oats? It sure looks good with the Grape Nuts!
I’m not sure about my brain/body– they’re so connected it’s sometimes hard to tell which is giving out!
Great bowl of welcome back oatmeal!! YUM
Even though I’m not an experienced runner, I definitely feel like my brain gives out before my legs. That’s something I’ll keep in mind next time I’m running.
yum that oatmeal looks so good especially with that caramel sauce! good luck with the training!
