Evening! Wow, the Jessica Simpson post sure provoked a reaction!  I really enjoyed reading everyone’s opinions — and you all were so nice to each other (and Jessica).

Most of you agree that:

  • The media is disgusting.
  • Jessica is wearing horrible pants that does her no favors.
  • Attacks like this warp other women’s (and men’s) perceptions about what’s healthy and sexy.
  • The media accuses celebrities of either "battling an eating disorder" or being "fat."  No one is good enough, and there’s too much focus on appearance, even if they are public figures.
  • The NY Post cartoon was in poor taste; however, its probably a satire, not serious.

What do we do about this?  The media will always gossip — the only thing we each can do is fight the fat talk! (Watch that video if you haven’t yet!)

OK – Back to your regularly scheduled programming! 🙂

New shoes definitely cure the blues!! I got my THIRD pair of sneakers in 3 months — I hope these work.

CIMG1377

Track Shack is awesome.   I am never buying my running shoes at a regular store like Sports Authority again.  I will forever go to a specialized store!  Track Shack let me return shoes with 30 miles on them!

I got a pair of Brooks.  Keep your fingers crossed!

I also bought some goo for the long runs in my future.

CIMG1382

Can’t wait to try them!  I need to take a few days off of running to let my feet calm down after the evil Asics, but hopefully I can do a long run on Sunday!

Onto food….

My mid-afternoon snack was…. you guessed it! Yogurt and granola.

CIMG1372

+ another serving! :)  I was hungry.

And after Track Shack, I stopped at my friend’s house to enjoy the leftovers his mom cooked.  Yay!! Mom-made meals are the best.

My dinner included a small portion of whole wheat spaghetti and meatballs — so good!

CIMG1375

And a salad.

Well, as mentioned, no work out for me today because of the foot.  It’s a rest day anyway, so that works out!

Have a wonderful evening! Time for LOST!

I’m glad to hear they let you return the shoes! Isn’t it nice to feel that stores actually care about their customers?

  • VeggieGirl January 28, 2009, 6:56 pm

I’m praying that the new shoes fit the whole “third times the charm” philosophy!! Good luck!!

    Hooray for “LOST”!! 😀

Glad to hear they let you return the shoes, but sorry to hear the Asics didn’t work out for ya 🙁 Good luck with the Brooks! That was what my last pair was!

  • jenngirl January 28, 2009, 7:12 pm

I was in on campus today during your earlier post, but I just wanted to chime in and agree with everything you said! I hate the media these days, and it sucks that such an amazing and beautiful gal like Jess Simpson gets that kind of publicity. Down with the Fat Talk!

Yum spaghetti and meatballs, hope the foot is better tomorrow 🙂

  • chasedaylight January 28, 2009, 7:16 pm

Yay for Track Shack!!! I might have to make a visit there next time I’m in Orlando. Your new shoes are beautiful!!!

  • d.a.r. January 28, 2009, 7:26 pm

I’m so glad they let you return your shoes!! I love small little specialized stores. The running store I went to in my town lets you return them up to 50 miles. Good luck resting those feet!

I would say it is safe to assume that the vast majority of food bloggers, such as yourselves, do not wear a size 8. I am sure many of you wear a size smaller, if not much smaller, than an 8. Also, I am sure many of you would freak out if you gained about 10-15 pounds. Most of us like to be “thin.” I agree, she is not fat. But her figure now is such a drastic chsnge from her figure before. That drastic change alone is why she has been targeted. She is also a celebrity. Maybe she did starve herself to look the way she did before and now she realizes it was not worth it. But then she has to realize the consequences of coming to that realization in front of the cameras.

I personally know how devastating the media is, though. I have been bulimic for three years and am 30 pounds underweight. I refuse to seek treatment even though I desperately need it because I do not want to gain weight. I like being “very thin.” Ironically, I am also a medical student. The media’s influences are so strong that I can’t even get the help I need for my health even though I know exactly what it is doing to my body.

I hope Jessica does not come out in a month with a trim figure saying, I lost the weight and got healthy again.

Enjoy LOST! I love the color of your new shoes!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point January 28, 2009, 8:25 pm

anon – i think you said some very wise things, thank you for sharing your opinion. for me personally, the real issue isnt whether jessica is or is not fat, i’m more concerned about how this kind of fat talk affects the rest of us. and i hope you get the help you need to be happy and healthy — no matter what size you are.

  • Rose January 28, 2009, 8:41 pm

Good luck with the new shoes!

  • Carolina John January 29, 2009, 5:45 am

i love the shot blocks. Gels get the job done really well too, but some people don’t like the texture. Just keep up with the different eating times, gels you shoot whole, but you have to eat one of the blocks every 10 mins so the entire bag feeds you electrolites for just over an hour.

You really don’t need those unless your runs are going over 90 minutes. I didn’t think you covered those distances. Good job!

  • Bridget January 29, 2009, 6:10 am

Funny, some guys at work yesterday were looking AND commenting on those same J Simpson photos…and obviously calling her fat…oh brother! A group of boys in their early-mid twenties get 100 times more immature when together haha.

My fiances LOVES Brooks running shoes…hope they work out great!!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point January 29, 2009, 6:22 am

john – yup! im back to doing 10 or 12 milers on sunday! very exciting to be back at long distances after my knee injury!! 🙂

    Hey Caitlin,

First time commenter. Found you through Jenna’s blog.

I used to have Asics Gels and had problems with them and sore shins after I ran. I got fitted for Brooks at a speacialty store and they are awesome! I ran a 1/2 two weeks ago and had no foot problems. Hope you like them too!
